FREELANCE OPPORTUNITY: Arabic-speaking MENA Regional Media Liaison Consultant – January 2025

Outline of the role

AMS Consultancy’s Media Agency is looking for an Arabic-speaking MENA Regional Media Liaison Consultant based in Doha (Qatar), with strong contacts in the MENA media landscape. The successful applicant will join our media team in supporting a major international development foundation. The client has impacted the lives of millions of young people around the world, and has many inspiring stories to tell about their work and their global community.

This is a contract role located in Doha, Qatar, working full-time (approximately 37.5 hours per week, Sunday to Thursday), from the client’s office in a central location, with a renewable 2-month contract. 

This is an exciting and inspiring opportunity for someone with 3+ years of experience in media and communications roles. Existing good relationships with media contacts in Qatar and/or the Middle East are essential.

As a Regional Media Liaison Consultant, you will work collaboratively with a team to create and distribute written materials, including stories from the client’s programmes, press releases, media briefings, and case studies. You will also identify and share media opportunities for client responses based on monitored trends and discussions, while contributing to the client’s forward planner to uncover story opportunities. Additionally, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering high-quality communications that drive engagement, such as digital media campaigns, messaging strategies, event planning, risk management, and branding and messaging development.

Other responsibilities may include stakeholder management, creating and executing media plans, developing communications content, and providing communications advice. This role requires close collaboration with the client’s senior specialists and AMS senior consultants. Other relevant tasks may be assigned with prior agreement and confirmed in writing to ensure the successful completion of project objectives. These tasks will be completed with support and input from the team and the client.

Qualifications

  • Extremely proficient or bilingual level Arabic (spoken and written).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, Marketing, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or similar field.
  • Positive existing relations with media outlets in Qatar and other MENA countries.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This person never misses a deadline; can respond to changing priorities; is able to prioritise work effectively.
  • Skilled user of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs, Drive, Sheets, and Slides. Experience using AI tools for efficient workflow and media monitoring/distribution platforms is also advantageous.
  • Proven positive relationships with media contacts and the ability to pitch effectively and secure coverage. Experience dealing with media personnel, ideally across print, online, broadcast, and podcasts, is an advantage.

  • Writing skills: You will be creating written products such as press releases, media packs, brochures, and/or web copy. You should be able to distill technical and complex issues in writing for a general audience. You should produce excellent meeting minutes.

  • Experience with international development or non-profits, and/or familiarity with global development trends and media discussions, would be a strong advantage.

Key terms and conditions

  • 37.5 hours average per week.
  • Compensation: $3,000-$3,500 per month depending on skills and experience.
  • Initial 2-month contract, with the possibility for extension.
  • This role works the Qatar working week, i.e. Sunday to Thursday. Availability all day on Sundays is required; other days are flexible.
  • The successful candidate is required to be on-call for urgent work that may come up on Fridays and Saturdays. If called upon, the candidate will be able to take time off in lieu to compensate for these hours.
  • The working language is English for meetings and emails.
