FREELANCE OPPORTUNITY: Senior Media Consultant (Asia-focused and Qatar based) – October 2024

Outline of the role

AMS Consultancy’s Media Agency is looking for a Senior Media Consultant based in Doha (Qatar), with strong contacts in the Asian media, primarily in India, Bangladesh and Pakistan. The successful applicant will join our media team in supporting a major international development foundation. The client has impacted the lives of millions of young people around the world, and has many inspiring stories to tell about their work and their global community.

This is a contract role located in Doha, Qatar, working full time (approximately 37.5 hours per week), from the client’s office in a central location. The contract will be for 3 months initially and is renewable by mutual agreement.

This is an exciting and inspiring opportunity for someone with 6+ years of experience in media and communications roles, who has good relationships with media contacts in India, Bangladesh and/or Pakistan.

As a Senior Media Consultant, you will lead media planning, engagement, and relationship-building with media in Asia (India, Bangladesh and Pakistan) across broadcast, digital, print, and other influential platforms. You will plan and execute media campaigns, manage media relations at events, and proactively pitch to the media to raise awareness of the client’s brand among key stakeholders. You will also oversee the development of media contact lists, manage interactions between the client and Asian media, and support public relations activities to maximise positive coverage. Other responsibilities may include advising on risk communication, handling crisis response, and adapting strategies based on media trends in Asia.

Qualifications

  • Extremely proficient or bilingual level English (spoken and written).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, Marketing, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in communications, public relations or similar field.
  • Excellent written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong background in media relations, especially in Asia, with a track record of building and maintaining media networks.
  • Advanced knowledge of digital, broadcast, and print media in the region, and the ability to pitch stories and manage public relations across platforms.
  • Skilled user of MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Google Docs, Drive, Sheets and Slides. Experience of media monitoring and distribution platforms an advantage. Experience using AI tools for efficient workflow also an advantage.
  • Optional, not essential: Relevant professional associations, and/or certifications. Experience in crisis communication and media risk management. Proven positive relationships with media contacts in Asia and the ability to pitch effectively and secure coverage. Experience dealing with media personnel, ideally across print, online, broadcast and podcasts.

  • Fluent spoken and written English. Ability to read and write accurately in Arabic, Spanish or French would be an additional advantage.

  • Cultural awareness: You have experience working within diverse teams.
  • Communication skills: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with public including group facilitation and research into public opinion.
  • Experience with international development or non-profits would be a plus.

Key terms and conditions

  • 37.5 hours average per week.
  • Compensation: $3,500-$4,000 per month depending on skills and experience.
  • Initial 3-month contract, with the possibility for extension.
  • This role works the Qatar working week, i.e. Sunday to Thursday. Availability all day on Sundays is required; other days are flexible.
  • The successful candidate is required to be on-call for urgent work that may come up on Fridays and Saturdays. If called upon, the candidate will be able to take time off in lieu to compensate for these hours.
  • The working language is English for meetings and emails.
